Shear behaviour of subgrade soil with reference to varying initial shear stress and plasticity index

Abstract The influence of stress anisotropy ( K ) (i.e. the ratio between effective horizontal and vertical stresses) on shear behaviour soils has received significant attention in past studies, but how its depends different values plasticity index (PI) not been properly quantified. In this study, results a series undrained triaxial tests anisotropically consolidated soil at are reported , together with experimental data, interactive roles PI rigorously interpreted. findings indicate that peak strength increases higher brittleness, whereas excess pore pressure diminishes when value decreases. Moreover, increasing up to 35 tends increase strength, beyond seems marginal. Based empirical equations incorporating estimate proposed acceptable accuracy.
